Marlena Gordon is a certified Reiki Master and Intuitive Guide, set on the mission of helping others through life’s most difficult transitions. Although these certifications and schooling she has behind her are great, Marlena’s most qualifying credential is her own life experiences. By going through what she has gone through, Marlena now lives a life full of living with intention, seeking answers within, and wanting to share her gifts with the world. Today, Marlena Gordon shares her story of how living with intention set her on a different life course.
What was your life like before SWIHA? What led you to SWIHA and to your particular program of study? Why are you passionate about this modality?:
Before SWIHA, I was serving as a Fashion Stylist in a High-End Retail Fashion store environment. I was going through the motions, feeling unfulfilled, stagnant, and emotionally and spiritually stuck. When the pandemic arrived, the store was closed permanently. I took the time to reflect, meditate and journal, in search of what really called to my soul to create my life's purpose and how it might be of service to others.
I synchronically discovered and enrolled in the Intuitive Guidance Course followed by the Entrepreneurial Business Course at SWIHA. I was formally trained, 20 years before, as a Certified Reiki Master practicing Energy and Intuitive Guidance as a natural empath however not yet providing the work I was feeling called to practice as a healing service for others. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, having lived in NYC where I had my own art licensing business for years. So I knew there was more I was capable of doing and creating if only I had some direction, a clear path to follow, and some expert guidance.
I am passionate about my work now because I have the opportunity for my unique soul purpose and true expression in the world in a way to support and encourage others along their authentic life path. Through Reiki and Intuitive Guidance, I have created a unique approach to relaxation and healing. It combines several ancient modalities along with Acupressure and Interactive Conversations. When I see the shift, progress, and transformation in others, it really lights me up! Knowing and feeling that my service makes a difference for someone else is what gives my life a greater sense of purpose. I receive as much from others as I give to them in reciprocation.
How does intention/mindfulness show up in your life?:
I practice intention and mindfulness every day by slowing down, observing my thoughts, feeling my feelings, and listening more to others as I have learned to love myself. It is reflected in everything I do, what I eat, rituals, and practices such as Yoga, Qigong, and Journaling. As a result, I feel more relaxed and peaceful. I can actually sit quietly without distractions or the need to keep doing just to be busy... I have learned a much more joyful and peaceful way of being.
What did your life look like when you weren't living with intention?:
Before living with intention, I was an over thinker, a worrier, and a fear-based individual. Like most people I was always doing vs being. I was looking outside of myself for distractions, shopping, and addictive foods such as sugar, and dairy. I no longer feel the need for those things and I no longer blame anyone or anything else outside of myself when something external poses an issue. I have learned to sit quietly, find the stillness and go within for the answers.
What goals did you have the past year and how did living with intention help you reach them?:
My first goals were to take these two courses. That set into motion by creating a website and finding a few places to connect with to provide my service. I found a Day Spa in Scottsdale and through that first contact I acquired clients, those who worked at the spa, and then an Integrative Medical Doctor I was introduced to. All these came in being as I continued to have faith and put one step in front of the other. My path began to unfold. A year later my husband and I purchased a home in Sun City. I had the intention to create a sacred space and it manifested. I now provide my services to clients in my own home space as well as outside at other locations. Today I have a much larger plan in place for creating a future I feel totally passionate about. The possibilities feel expansive and I'm excited to explore them and keep moving forward.
What advice do you have for those wanting to live with intention and mindfulness?:
My advice is to go for what you really want. Sit quietly with yourself, and discover what makes your soul sing... No one else can do that for you...Only when you take the time to let go of what holds you back, love yourself and listen within you can find the deepest part of yourself that has been longing to speak to you. When you listen you will hear your soul's purpose and love your life.
Anything else you want to add about living ON-PURPOSE?:
I'd like to share that the support and loving attention I have had at SWIHA has been immeasurable. Particularly, James Patrick and Sharon Rose are outstanding mentors, advisors, and guides. They always show up and have supported my journey along this path and for that, I am grateful with all my heart. With much love to all the staff and KC Miller, the Founder.
