Birth Doula and SWIHA Graduate Jaylin Fisher shares her journey

At the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA), students come from diverse walks of life, each on a unique path of healing and transformation. Among them is Jaylin Fisher, a recent graduate of the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program. Jaylin’s story is one of resilience, purpose, and a commitment to empowering women during one of life’s most transformative moments: childbirth.

Before discovering SWIHA, Jaylin felt adrift. A challenging period in her life—including a pelvis fracture in 2018 and the birth of her daughter, Sarai Noel, in 2019—propelled her to reevaluate her direction. Despite her aspirations of becoming a Labor and Delivery Nurse and her years of experience in healthcare, she realized that her true calling lay outside traditional pathways. Her journey led her to SWIHA, where the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program resonated deeply with her vision of supporting women through labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.

The pain and depression I endured after childbirth fueled my commitment to helping women rediscover themselves after giving birth,” Jaylin reflects. Her journey has transformed her struggles into a powerful mission to uplift and empower others.

For Jaylin, learning to create altars, conduct rituals, and facilitate botanical ceremonies were pivotal moments. These practices deepened her spiritual connection and also became integral to her work as a birthworker. Witnessing the strength and resilience of the mothers she supported confirmed her path. “This work is not just a profession, it is a purpose deeply aligned with my soul,” she shares.

Jaylin’s dedication to birthwork led to the creation of her business, Forever Noel. Offering prenatal care, labor and delivery support, postpartum care, and holistic wellness guidance, Jaylin provides a safe and nurturing environment for mothers. Integrating skills learned at SWIHA, such as coaching, meditation, herbal remedies, and energy work, she addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of her clients. Her work fosters profound and lasting impacts, helping women heal, grow, and thrive.

Since enrolling at SWIHA, Jaylin’s life has undergone profound change. She is now a certified birth and postpartum doula, as well as a certified birth/midwife assistant, with plans to complete her Community Health Worker certification. Having supported 15 mothers through prenatal care, birth, and postpartum recovery, Jaylin’s journey is one of growth, healing, and empowerment.

Transitioning out of the U.S. Army National Guard after six years of service, Jaylin has focused on her internal healing and professional development. Her unwavering commitment to her path keeps her moving forward. Establishing boundaries and prioritizing self-care have been vital lessons, enabling her to approach her work from a place of wholeness.

Jaylin’s advice to future SWIHA students is to “trust the process and be open to the journey.” She emphasizes the importance of embracing challenges, prioritizing self-care, and building connections with peers. “The path you’re on may not always be clear, yet every step you take is bringing you closer to your true purpose,” she says.

In addition to her work with Forever Noel, Jaylin co-founded Project S.T.E.P., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young people. Her commitment to nurturing the next generation reflects her broader mission of creating spaces where healing, growth, and transformation can thrive.

Jaylin Fisher’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of healing arts education. Through her work as a birth worker and community leader, she is creating ripples of change, empowering women and communities to embrace their strength and resilience. At SWIHA, stories like Jaylin’s remind us that the journey of healing and empowerment is not just personal, it is profoundly communal.
