“The power of intention is the power to manifest, to create, to live a life of unlimited abundance, and to attract into your life the right people at the right moments.” - Wayne Dyer
Great Graduate Kami Pollvogt, of the Life Coaching Program here at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, worked in corporate America for over twenty years. When her company downsized and eliminated her department, she was left wondering what she wanted to do with her life. For the first time in a long time, the possibilities were endless. Kami knew she had a passion for human psychology. Kami states, “I found I loved it and realized that all my life I was curious about human behavior and really liked helping others with achieving greater awareness of who they are”. This life revelation in 2016 brought Kami life lessons of self-awareness, living life with intention, and her journey to SWIHA.
When reflecting back on her time at SWIHA, Kami asserts, “On a personal level, I have grown to understand my natural strengths and limitations far more. My time with SWIHA was like shining a light onto a path I've needed to take for a long time.” She continues, “My life has changed greatly in my own self-awareness. I am no longer an ‘advice giver’, I am an educator (or provider of thoughts or options to consider) so that others can discern what's right for them.” By working on her own self-awareness and entrepreneurial journey, Kami was able to explore her strengths and how she can help her clients. On Kami’s website for her business Change By Design, the homepage message reads, “It’s time to stop doing the same thing and thinking the same way over and over and expecting things to change! Start leading the life you were meant to live today!” This encompasses Kami’s purpose and message to help people design the life they want to live, just as she did for herself!
Kami owns her own business, Change By Design LLC, as she was inspired by other professionals around her. Kami explains, “I was inspired by seeing what others have accomplished by offering personal and professional development services. I offer 1:1 and group coaching for self-awareness programs that help others to succeed in any area of their life. I feel the key is self-awareness and a positive mindset. The impact I have is the ability to shine a light on patterns in thinking and behaving that are or are not serving them well.” When learning about Life Coaching, SWIHA was able to provide ‘an amazing foundational understanding’ of what coaching is and is not and how there are numerous amounts of tools to help clients.
In addition to coaching, Kami offers consults within the business marketing space, as that is an area of strength for her. However, big things are coming in 2022 for Kami’s business! Kami announced, “I am shifting my attention in 2022 on my coaching practice with the integration of Creativity (metacognitive drawing and intuitive painting) as a modality for helping people discover who they are. I like to think of it as a self-awareness program.” This healing modality will be a great addition to her business and how she shows up for her clients! Furthermore, in addition to Kami’s business, she co-facilitates a workshop every month around the topic of Authenticity, where she aids participants in looking at their behaviors from the lens of Carl Jung’s 12 Archetypes.
To accompany her education from SWIHA, Kami is also certified in other healing modalities such as Color Code Personality Assessments and Intentional Creativity. Intentional Creativity is an experiential process, however, put into words; it is the process that combines creative expression with mindfulness to support growth and healing. Color Code Personality Assessments are a great way to understand yourself a bit better by analyzing the “why” behind what you do.
When looking back at her time at SWIHA, the biggest lesson Kami had was around living with intention. She realized how much she wasn’t living with it before, and look where she is now - helping others to do the same! Kami’s biggest advice for future and potential students of SWIHA is, “Go for it. Even if you don't end up starting a private business in the academic area chosen, you will walk away with valuable life skills for yourself. There isn't a downside.”
