Maureen Covinsky reflects on her time at SWIHA

Life often presents challenges that can feel isolating or insurmountable—especially for those navigating the complexities of hearing loss. Maureen Covinsky, founder of Hear 2 Hear U, is a SWIHA Life Coaching Graduate who has turned her personal journey with hearing loss into a mission of empowerment, guidance, and connection for others.

Maureen’s career path spans decades in retail management, followed by a transition to working from home for a pharmacy. However, her true calling emerged when she sought to channel her experiences into meaningful change. Having already earned a holistic nutrition certificate years ago, Maureen returned to the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) to pursue Life Coaching, combining her passion for holistic well-being and personal growth.

"SWIHA was the first place I thought of for my coaching education," Maureen shares. Her previous experience at SWIHA left a lasting impression, making it a natural choice when she decided to embark on a new professional journey.

For Maureen, Life Coaching is about more than setting goals or overcoming obstacles—it’s about creating a safe space for clients to express their feelings, identify their needs, and uncover their full potential. Her unique perspective shines through her emphasis on hearing health, a topic close to her heart. As someone who was post-lingually deafened and now thrives with cochlear implants, Maureen’s personal experiences deeply inform her coaching approach.

I’ve been on several podcasts discussing the importance of being proactive about hearing health,” Maureen explains. These conversations raise awareness and highlight her commitment to empowering others through knowledge and support.

Maureen’s coaching practice, Hear 2 Hear U, is dedicated to individuals with hearing loss and their loved ones. Recognizing the emotional hurdles that often accompany hearing loss, Maureen provides tailored support to help clients adapt and thrive.

Her sessions integrate powerful tools like the Wheel of Life, which she has adapted specifically for hearing loss situations, and her self-created workbook, Overcoming the Emotional Hurdles of Hearing Loss. This resource enables clients to identify and transform negative emotions into positive actions, providing a roadmap for emotional resilience.

Having navigated her own hearing loss journey, Maureen is passionate about helping others redefine what’s possible. “I love teaching and guiding others to adapt and thrive using my experiences as a guide,” she says. Her work is a testament to the transformative power of coaching—particularly when it’s rooted in empathy and shared experience.

For those considering a career in coaching, Maureen offers this advice:

1. Find Your Zone of Excellence: Identify your unique strengths and how they can serve others

2. Follow Your Passion: Focus on an area that resonates with you deeply, allowing you to bring authenticity and expertise to your practice.

3. Define Your Niche: Specializing in a specific area can help you create a thriving coaching business and build meaningful connections.

Maureen encourages individuals to embrace the support of a coach to achieve their goals. “Working with a coach provides a fresh perspective, helping you identify the right direction to move forward,” she advises. By partnering with a coach, individuals can unlock their potential, stay motivated, and take actionable steps toward their dreams with confidence and purpose.
