If you are unfamiliar with Astro-terminology, Mercury in Retrograde, or more commonly known as Mercury Retrograde, is when the planet Mercury seems to be moving backward - from west to east. The areas of life that Mercury tends to rule are disrupted and can affect each of us differently. Mercury is the planet that rules communication, travel, and technology, and when in retrograde - life can seem a bit out of control. Mercury Retrograde is a time for channeling energy inward, reflecting, re-assessing, and rethinking our lives. We’ve already survived two retrogrades in the year 2021, and now- we are right in the middle of one! This final retrograde of 2021 started on September 27 and is lasting through October 18. Here’s what you need to do to make it through the rest of retrograde with ease, based on your zodiac sign (according to AstroTwins from Mindbodygreen).

For over 20 years Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) has been offering a 200-hour yoga alliance approved yoga teacher training under the banner of “Unity Yoga”. Students are encouraged to find their own authentic expression of yoga, with an emphasis on cueing safe, anatomically correct asana-based studio classes. We’ve successfully graduated hundreds of students over the years that have found their own voices and adapted what they’ve learned into compelling and creative studio classes that they offer all across the country.
As we have sought to enrich our Advanced Yoga Teacher offerings we have begun to focus on the deeper aspects of yoga including meditation in the form of Yoga Nidra —a guided yogic sleep system refined by Kamini Desai, PhD.

Holistic health is truly about caring for the "whole you" this means not just caring for your physical health through diet, exercise, and interventions if necessary, it also means caring for your mental, emotional, and spiritual health. For every individual these are going to vary in importance as well as vary in what works or does not work to help support them along their path to overall health and well-being. This is often described as "treating" the patient, client, or person as a whole- as opposed to treating them as their symptom. In terms of symptoms people often forget they spread far beyond physical ones such as experiencing a runny nose, headache, or cough. Other symptoms include those often associated with one's mental health like generalized feelings of sadness, loneliness, anxiety, etc. These can also be tied to spiritual and emotional health as well. This is why it’s so important to treat the WHOLE individual, as opposed to the symptom, because if you treat the symptom you won’t get to the root cause of the issue, you just cover it up further.

We've all been there. We want to eat healthier, so we do a quick Google search to get some tips and suddenly become overwhelmed by the amount of data returned. Results range from diets promising quick and easy results - low carb, low fat, high fat, carnivore, keto, plant-based - to food subscriptions to buy, ads for nutritional and fitness services, and a few websites promising to unlock the secrets to healthy eating but leave you with very little and often conflicting information. It's frustrating, often resulting in giving up and continuing old habits or taking advice from a friend of a friend who happens to know all about the latest diet craze; you hop on board excited about the promised results. Disappointment settles in quickly. Why isn't the diet working?

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” - Eckhart Tolle
Starting your day in a positive mood, energized, and ready to take on the world could be a normal morning for you if you start your daily routine with a gratitude journal. Overthinking is a common enemy for many, constantly replaying scenarios that have not even happened yet. Or comparing yourself to others and constantly wanting what you don’t have can take a heavy toll on your mental health. On a subconscious level, journaling helps counteract our Negativity bias.

‘Grafting’ is a word used to describe the process of taking a branch from one tree and connecting it with another tree to duplicate its future growth. What a perfect metaphor of our intention as we move from the campus SWIHA has enjoyed for almost 15 years to a new location in Tempe, Arizona. We want to take the ‘positive light’ from the halls of the campus and the hearts of all the staff, instructors and students to our new location just a few miles away. We’ve decided to coin the term ‘spiritual grafting’ to affirm our intention to take what SWIHA has been and done over the last 26 years —transferring and re-growing our ‘Light’!

By definition, a dream is described as:
a series of thoughts, visions, or feelings that happen during sleep an idea or vision that is created in your imagination and that is not real something that you have wanted very much to do, be, or have for a long time
Source: Merriam-Webster Dictionary
More often than not, each new day in our modern lives comes with an overwhelming number of responsibilities and duties that have to get done: work, school assignments, childcare, cooking, cleaning, doctor appointments... the list goes on and on!
Unfortunately, our contemporary fixation on being busy leaves very little room for dreaming. Whether we aspire to find a better job, meet the love of our life, be the first in our family to pursue a post-secondary education, or even to open our own business as a holistic entrepreneur, the reasons we all desire success are as numerous as the stars in the sky.
Many times, however, the stark reality of our current lives keeps us fixated on our fears, causing us to avoid our futures and to stop dreaming. Dreaming requires the intentional devotation of time to a vision of a better life and self; it is, in itself, part of the process of change.

Toe Reading is a unique and captivating healing art, which uses active listening, powerful, soul-searching questions, and deeply skilled insight to help people create change in their lives. It is the art of sitting before someone and witnessing their very being, their life story. Toe Reading is based on the theory that each individual records a holograph of the story of their life and stores it within the body. The position and shape of the toes contain this story, which can be read by a skilled practitioner.

From an early age, Kimberlie Faybik was blessed with the ability to communicate with Spirit in a myriad of forms. She could communicate with an individual’s higher self, their guides, connect with deceased loved ones, and tap into experiences of their past lives. Her journey to Southwest Institute of Healing Arts wasn’t easy, as she battled through Merkel cell carcinoma over seven years ago.
“Multiple surgeries and dozens of radiation treatments later, I was fortunate enough to beat it,” said Kimberlie. “Afterwards, I decided to take a more natural and holistic approach to my health. I became a Reiki Master, which opened the doors to meet more like-minded people, one of which told me about SWIHA.”
After working in the healthcare field for over twenty years, coupled with her own personal experience as a cancer survivor, Kimberlie knew deep down that there was a better healing environment than the “cold and impersonal” healthcare system that currently exists as the status quo. Regarding the current healthcare system, Kimberlie shared how she felt like “just another patient or just another employee.”

Aricha Pluid became aware of Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) when she was still living in Oregon, her home state, while searching for advanced training opportunities online. “I moved to Arizona with my husband in search of a new and different experience, but nearly half of my decision to sell just about everything and move to the desert was fueled by the promise of SWIHA, an oasis.“
