Before Sandra Steenstra Byrd ever considered becoming a life coach, she was a retail/restaurant manager. The mixture of having a management position and a welcoming presence meant that most employees were drawn to her when they needed someone to talk to. Having this innate gift of being a calming and guiding presence for others, Sandra knew there was a bigger calling for her out there.

What was your life like before SWIHA? What led you to SWIHA and to your particular program of study?
Before SWIHA, I was working at Cardinal Health for 8 years as a Customer Service Professional providing service to people in need of crucial medical supplies for the necessity of their wellness. Speaking with people who are in a health crisis requires deep listening, compassion, patience, and faith. In my position, I learned how important it is for Light Workers to make their wellness a priority. Working at Cardinal Health introduced me to new ways, how thoughts are seeds and words become the nature of what can be created.

“My life was very depressing, painful, and boring before SWIHA. After being discouraged by doctors and being told that there was nothing they could do for me outside of praying, I got fed up and felt I needed to take matters into my own hands. I scrolled on Facebook, saw the SWIHA ad, and did some research! Shortly after, I decided to switch schools and majors. I started going to school for business and management yet I wasn't happy - I just felt I needed it. So after signing up for SWIHA, I had in my mind that I would use what I was being taught to heal myself. The meaning of spirituality has evolved and expanded over time, and various meanings can be found alongside each other. What does spirituality mean in the modern world? Modern Spirituality centers on the deepest values and meanings by which people live. This idea often embraces the idea of an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of his or her being. This is exactly what Great Graduate Sophia Duhon was searching for before her time at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. Sophia explains, “Before SWIHA, I felt a bit lost in terms of what my life purpose was, and how I wanted to go about educating myself, helping others, and raising the vibration of my spiritual self. “Just before I enrolled, due to a near-death experience, I began going through a transformational spiritual awakening. I was confused by all the personal changes I was experiencing.
